Brownies!

Okay, its not state of the art kind of brownies-baking but its my first baking product since I arrived here in the UK so yes I am super proud of myself for being able to make this.

I found this recipe at the allrecipes.com here.
Its a 10 minute microwave brownies recipe thing that I have never trust every time I stumble across it.
The thing is I really don't like baking using a microwave because the cake won't rise like it suppose to and it won't give the browning effect like we see on homemade cakes.
At least this is what I learn in my Food Technology module.
But since I am just that desperate to bake something, so I thought why not give it a try.
I went to the supermarket, gather the ingredients, came back at my kitchen-hall, whisk the batter, set it in the microwave and voila!
A brownies is made.

It taste very chocolaty, thick and sweet.
The bright side it take less than 30 minutes to make (whisk, baked and washing), it can be hand-whisk and has a very lush taste.
But the batter can only cater less than 10 people.
So I had to double the batter if I were to filled up a 9 x 9 inch platter.
The only thing that restraining me from baking all the goodies was the oven at my kitchen-hall here.
I'm staying in a hall so the oven doesn't actually well-suited for baking.
The heating mechanism were more for grilling or melting cheese etc.
So I guess I just gotta learn how to bake using microwave now.
Surely more recipes to come streaming its way after this
Till then, toodles peeps!

My Red Velvet Adventure

Hello!
I'm gonna write this one quick. Ok, tipu. Its a long entry.

I have more than couple of stories to share here but can't seem to find the ample time to do so.
So I'm gonna start with my adventure in finding the best red velvet recipe.
Other stories will have to wait for their turn.

I have baked this cake for almost 10 times now using 3-4 different recipes that I found in the internet.
Unfortunately I still failed to find that one recipe that fits my taste buds.
But still, there's still few recipes that comes out a winner.
I'm gonna share it right here with you lovely people.

I tried this recipe from Sprinkle Bakes.

Its heaven blog for dessert recipe.
But when I tried to bake it, it turns out a horror.
I even tried to baked it 3 times. THREE TIMES.
And failed, every time.
I is sad.
The first time I baked it here, the cake came out burned.
The second time the cake didn't rise. The third time was a disaster.
But with whats left of the cake, it tasted GOOD.
I really love how the cake tasted. Which is explains why I tried to baked it thrice.
It has really soft and spongy texture.
Sadly I didn't snap the photos of my failure.
Didn't have the heart to share it with you people.

Then I tried the Red Velvet (RV) cake pre-mix from a bakery store near my house.
The taste was out. Completely out.

Then my girlfriend Miss N decided to hook me up with her aunt for a RV baking class at her aunt's house.
We went there and I learned how to make a perfect RV.
She got the recipe from here and did made few alterations.
She substitute half of the white sugar with brown sugar.
And she did add 1 tsp of baking powder to the batter.
The cupcakes turns out wow. Just wow.
See the photos for yourself.

Thank you Miss N !
The key was not to over beat the batter.
I also got to learned how to make a buttermilk manually.
I Tbsp of distilled vinegar or lemon juice with 1 cup pf milk. Let it stand for 5-10 minutes.
I find the knowledge is very liberating.
Since finding just a pint of a buttermilk can be a real adventure from where I live.

I also tried this recipe from Bakerella
The recipe is really easy.
The outcome, voila!

The cuppies were very moist.

And thats the end for my RV adventure journey.
Hope you enjoyed it.
Till the next entry.
Toodles!

 at The Bee

12.12.12
I had to like state the date for today though I didn't feel anything extraordinary about it but still.
The date will only be around for once in my lifetime, hence, the stated date.

I've been MIA for quite awhile.
Something happened for what I like to called it "the tragedy".
Wouldn't want to elaborate bout it but oh boy,
it took every piece of me to pull myself back together.
Thank you Allah S.W.T for granting me the strength to overcome this.

I am so grateful (beyond grateful, actually)
that He has surrounded me with all these beautiful souls that cheered me up
like seeing a pumpkin in the middle of the road. Huh?!

Honestly, I would've never survived without these beautiful souls and my hummingbirds.
And thank God for "the tragedy",
I get to experience so much love from them and know that
I can always count on them when I needed it.
Thank you for not judging and have your faith in me sayangs.
You girls knew who you are. Love you heaps :')

Ija and cousin L, I takde gambar you berdua!
But your deeds would never be forgotten, promised.
*******************

While I was still in surviving mode,
I remind myself that I can still bake instead of grieving.
So I did.
And voila!
These cuppies are borned..

Forgive me for the quality of the pictures.
I is no competent photographer. Sobs Sobs.
But bare with me,ok?

That's all for now. Will updated the next post soon.
xoxo.
Thank you for stopping by.
Love you.

Silly Me in a Holy Ramadhan

Happy Ramadhan darlings!
I made this roasted chicken with grilled baby tomatoes and mash potatoes for our final meal before heavenly Ramadhan arrives.

Then Papa's birthday was just around  the corner.
Instead of buying, I decided to bake a birthday cake for him!
And I think it turns out so-so.
The taste was good but I though the look was dreadful. Haha!

Dreadful, rite?

The reason I wanted to bake the rainbow cake was that
I was so excited to try this marshmallow frosting form here.
It was an easy recipe and the outcome was awesome.
The frosting tasted sweet and fluffy!
But really had to reduced the sugar, though.
Too sweet.

On Ramadhan eve, I had a sudden craving for desserts (But don't I always?)
So, I baked this on second day of Ramadhan to quench my demanding tummy.

The view from 23rd floor of a construction site.
Went there for a job and met with sweetest safety officer ever.

*******************************************************

Every Ramadhan will always remind me of these. I miss them so much.

Thank you for reading through this yellow blog of mine.
Love you.

Life as it is..

I had my regular dose of The Daily Grind's Red Velvet every once a month.
Worth every penny!

I started baking again. Which is good.
Its been ages since I last bake a regular chocolate cake till last week.
I wanted to try the chocolate frosting from here, which explains why I baked the chocolate cake.
And it tasted heavenly delicious.
Don't forgot to read the reviews when you're trying out the choc frosting recipe.

Went and meet with my darling girls for a night out.
We talked and had a great time.
But I miss my other girls N&D.

Life has been slow and rough lately but I'm trying to take one day at a time.
And hope that all of this will be behind me very soon.

 Thank you for your time.

xoxo!

Red Velvet restoration

Its been 3 weeks since I last went home.
And so I did last weekend. Mom came and fetch me.
We went for lunch at Plan B,just the two of us.
Mom ate carbonara, while I ordered a breakfast plate.
I couldn't even describe the goodness feeling when I ate my meal.
Feels like an eternity ago that I had dine on good food.
That's the thing I miss the most when I'm in Shah Alam, good food.
Mom and I ate Red velvet cake at Plan B, and it tasted so-so.
So I decided to bake one when I got home.
I wanted to try this new recipe that I found here.
And so I bake it with a sky high enthusiasm and
with French music playing on the stereo.
Then guess what? My cake burnt and it falls apart!
It looked dreadful, but can't say the same bout the taste though.
The cake tasted divine and its light and spongy.
But who would eat a cake that is burnt?
So, I got this idea.
I put it in a jar, layered with the cheese frosting and continue till the jar is full.
Voila,a creation from the doomed!

Also since there were few crumbs left, I rolled it with cheese frosting and turned it into cake balls!
Talk about disaster-restoration in baking.
Either way I managed to make the cake form inedible to edible.
Yeay for me!

On Saturday,we went for  my cousin's son, Aiman aqiqah in Seremban.
I used the LEKAS highway. I must say the highway started to be my favourite route.
The green scenery along the way is really something.
You don't get to see a green sight for straight 1km in KL anymore.
At least not where I live.
There's something about lots and lots of green that just soothes and excite me at the same time.

The cake my cousin bought for lil' Aiman. Cute right?

This are the proud parents of lil'Aiman. Welcome on-board A!

For those of you who is reading this, have an awesome week ahead!
 Love you.

Sharing Candy

Salam to all my sayang's,
Today was a drag.
I had an early breakfast and have been yawning all my way from Criminology to Mandarin class.
The weather was as hot as an oven and I'm still in holiday pace eventhough
I'm in my 3rd week of the semester.
Currently nothing is happening in my life so I decided to share some of the few things I've done.
You're free to shut this page if you feel bored already.

Couple of days ago I made the colourful chocolates lollies for my cousin's son aqiqah. (pics above)
Few weeks before,I bake this blue green cupcakes for my cousin's
khatam al-Quran. All 200 of them.
The decoration was simple, tak mampu nak buat yang fancy-fancy
*But still,I'm so proud of myself*

Then a week before that, I bake this carrot cake. Tapi disebabkan tak sabar nak letak cheesy icing tu, cake tu belum thoroughly cool, saya da letak icing.
Akibatnya, cake tu pecah kat tepi dia and I actually gum balik bahagian yang pecah tu using the icing.
And so the cake nampak cacat sikit.
And what I did was,I grated half of the cheddar cheese on top the icing ,
sprinkle some red-coloured sugar and voilla!
Though the writing are little bit amateur. Well,I'm not a competent baker.

A month before that, I bake this wonderful tasty cheese cake.
The recipe was easy and took me less than an hour to bake.

And finally,as promised, the view.
This is the view from my current hostel room.
We got a direct view of  the Canselery and seems to me to be a good final view
beforeI finally move out from college.

That's all for now. Promise I'll share more if I have something coming up.
Toodles people.
Love you! xoxo

Membina Red Velvet Cake

Read the title people!
I have just made myself a red velvet cake.
I got the recipe from here.
Worth a try.

Sebarang tempahan sila hubungi 1800-***-***.
Sekian.

Pavlova

Ola lovelies!
It's been a hectic holiday. (Can I say that? Hectic holiday)
So,this is gonna be a quick entry.
I baked pavlova! Twice!
**So proud of myself**

I got the recipe from here.
Its the simplest dessert that require baking I have ever done.
If you're planning on baking a meringue, the entire baking utensils shall be free from any presence of water and moist.
Otherwise the meringue won't rise.
I got this tip from a friend of mine who is a Culinary student.
And I recommend that the sugar is reduced to 1/2 cup caused
1 cup is just too sweet. It'll numb your taste-buds.

Gotta go, thank you so much for stopping by.
Love you always!

Frank Sinatra+Oreo Balls

I'm in love with Frank Sinatra's I Won't Dance song...!
Try turning it on in your room in the morning, when you're dressing up or when you're making up your room,it'll make your day.
I'm even writing this entry with the tune playing in my earphone.

Apple Pie,anyone?

Life has been kinda so-so for me these past few days.
In fact I just came out from flu and cold. Not the best experience.

Last week I had a group assignment for OSHA subject.
They were 10 beautiful+funny people in my group,in which I was the group leader.

Mula-mula I thought takde orang nak masuk group I,sebab dalam kelas tu ada 190 students, and they all are like super seniors+juniors from various course.
Only my 2 friends and I from our batch yang gatal nak ambil subject ni awal.
So my friend pun gatal-gatal letak nama I jadi group leader sebab ingat takde orang nak masuk group we all.
But when my friend give out the group form for other students to fill in, it was a surprised that it came back in full.

So,this was my first experience working in large group for an assignment and with the super seniors.
I was like sangat la nervous nak deal dengan diorang.
But it turned they were such great+helpful+funny people, which turns out to be a great experience for me.
Not to mention masa working on the assignment,I was sick.
That is the worst part of the job.
And that the assignment's working instruction was very confusing. Hell confusing.
(Pity my group members sebab I asyik salah interpret the instructions)
But other than that,it was a great opportunity to get to know my my seniors.
I don't know what is like for them, but to me it was like working with your family cause there was no friction or even an awkward moments between us.
Given the fact that we all has never been working together before. So,its a score, right?

*******

And....
Last weekend,I baked these Apple Pie beauty...right from scratch.
As in the apple fillings, the crust, and the crumbles!
So proud of myself.

Till then, thank you for stopping by.
xoxo!!
I love you always!

Baking Weekend

Baked this tartlets goodies last Sunday for our afternoon tea. I could only serve 2 kinds of fruits on it because it was impromptu,so there wasn't enough supply of fruits at home. But still,it taste gorgeous as it is.

On Saturday my mom, me and my cousin went to Tanjung Malim in Perak to University Pendidikan Sultan Idris to fetch my other cousin for weekend outing. It was my first time to the place, to the state even.
The place was still covered with green scenery and shop houses. Also went YikMun famous pau to stop by.
Then my cousin ask her sister whom we fetch from UPSI,

Kakak : " Kat sini pagi jam teruk tak?"
Adik : " Kat sini mana ada jam. Tak pernah jam la kat sini. Pagi-pagi pun banyak motor je "

I was like..ok...in my mind was still digesting the fact that kat sini TAKDE jam.
They must be lucky to never feel what it is like to be stuck in the jam 1-2 hours.
Did you know that there is a Proton City in Tanjung Malim?
Yup,and its huge!
They didn't have anything going on yet. But in 5 years time the place will be a crowd puller.
(does that word even exist, crowd puller?)

Miss this cake.
Inspired to bake it someday.
