Before I wanted to write this post, I had so many ideas to share with you like my travelling journeys, the silly things my friends did and the wonderful memories that God has granted me to.

 

But as I 'm writing this post, my mood seems to be.

 spiralling down the drain.

In the beginning of today, life was good.

I started my morning by heading to the bakery to fetch some warm scones and chocolate croissant for breakfast.

 Then I do the dishes, get the laundry done and head to the library.

Here is where my tantrum starts to creep in.

I am SO LAZY to get my final year project writing done.

 I have been delaying it for more than a month now.

God..

 Imagine dragging myself form the floor to the library computer just to type a sentence.

 The struggle is so unbearable.

Only a plain authentic lazy-bum like me would've understand the feeling.

 

 I have been sitting in the library for an hour with no progress on the writing part except I managed to get my Candy Crush levels up, browse few cake recipes, ate another chocolate croissant, blogging, and add a song playlist on my mobile phone. 

 

WHAT AM I DOING?

**Cries**

 

How do you get yourself motivated to keep your writing going?

Long silence......and then I came out with no idea.

 

Help!

Baked these Blondies/Congo bar last week, twice.

Got the recipes from here

It tasted like baked cookies dough.

 

 

Expect the end product to be very gooey and thick.

I reduce the sugar amount to 3/4 from the recipe the second time I baked it.

The first one had a sugar content that were toooo sweet  for my liking.

Trying to keep my calm (Project #3)

Usaha untuk keep my calm hari ni agak mencabar.

Currently I'm in my semi-holiday because I'm doing my final year project (FYP) in my holidays.

My FYP is about entomology,study of insects,specifically mine is about flies.

Before this I have tried to rear  flies but failed due to unavoidable circumstances such as presence parasites and the weather.

So,my supervisor insist that I should take up 

my fly species form IMR  (Institute Medical Research).

And so I did. 

My supervisor introduce me to them and we make our deal.

 After a week of nothingness, the researchers at the facilities called up this morning and said that my flies are ready and I can take it home with me.

So pagi tadi, dengam penuh bersemangat saya pun menuju ke IMR dan mengambil "anak-anak" saya untuk dibawa pulang. Alhamdulillah, anak-anak lalat saya selamat menetas dari telur mereka. Sebagai ibu mithali,saya pun bertungkus lumus menyediakan semua keperluan mereka seperti rumah baru, makanan fresh, prepare netting (to avoid other flies form coming in to their home).

Since ketibaan mereka agak mengejut, kerana saya ingat mula-mula dapat time bulan puasa, rupanya dapat time seminggu sebelum puasa. 

So segala persiapan tidak disediakan lebih awal dan telah memakan masa 3 jam.

Lepas da siap semua ni, nak kena transfer anak-anak manja saya ke rumah baru mereka.

Proses ni pula mengambil masa 1 jam,ekoran kena kira satu-satu maggots untuk masuk kedalam rumah baru mereka.

Mencabar bukan?

 Tapi saya baca bismillah banyak-banyak supaya tak tersalah kira.

Lepas proses ini selesai, saya terus menuju ke kamar mandi untuk major shower showdown.

Dan sekarang, baru saya nak start cerita.

Jauh dilubuk hati saya, saya sebenarnya sedih sebab lalat saya hadir ke dunia ini seminggu sebelum bulan ramadhan menjelang. 

Kerana saat minggu akhir ni la saya nak bersama-sama teman melantak kesana kesini. 

Tapi sekarang,semua harapan tu punah. 

Date yang saya plan dengan teman pun hancur begitu sahaja.

Ini adalah kerana lalat saya masih lagi anak-anak kecil. 

Mereka perlukan ibu mereka,yakni saya. 

Mereka perlukan kasih sayang saya pada minggu pertama ini. 

Dan kini saya mempunyai tanggungjawab untuk megukur panjang maggots saya pada setiap 3 jam. 

Kejam bukan?

Ya,saya tau.

Tapi apakan daya. Inilah yang dinamakan pengorbanan seorang ibu.

Diharapkan pada semua bakal-bakal ibu diluar sana faham erti pengorbanan yang telah saya lakukan.

This is what I have been doing in my holidays. Rearing flies.

Specifically Chrysomya megacephala blowflies.

I took the flies eggs from a rabbit carcass and start rearing it. Unfortunately it wasn't the species that I wanted.

So I had to rear it again, manually.

Starting by placing a raw fish as bait. The flies will come over and lay their eggs in it.

Within 48 hours, I'll have maggots all over it.

I can't snap a closer photo. My maggots are camera-shy.

After approximately 5 days, the maggots will turn into pupae like this:

Few days later, I'll place water and sugar inside the cage for the newborn flies

 The newborn won't drink straight from the water. I had to place a sponge inside the water so that the flies will drink by sucking the sponge.

Then I'll placed another raw fish for them to eat and lay eggs on it and repeat this entire process again.

This is what the cage look like.

The brown fabric is actually a pantyhose. Once the flies has emerged into adults, I'll be placing a raw fish for them to feed using the pantyhose entry.

And this is my personal tool kit. 

A forceps, gloves and face masks.

And I have to wear lab coat cause the smell tend to lingers on the clothes.

Project : #1

Just wanna share what I did today.

I'm in final year. So we are supposed to perform a project/research individually to fulfill our course requirement. 

Mine is about Entomology, study of insects. 

My FYP (final year project) will be about studying the effects of drug on flies growth development. 

And so the first day started by collecting the flies eggs on  rabbit carcass. 

The collected eggs are then reared on a raw fish. 

The eggs will hatched into hundreds of maggots.

Will try to update the pics soon.

At first I thought the process will be a drag, than it turns out the opposite. Thanks to Azza and Faizal for making the day aworth awhile.
